What We Wear and What It Can Say About Us

Fashion trends used to be simple: there were what was in style, what colors were popular, and which outfits were acceptable for what event. As time has gone on, style has become much more personal, and we often seek to wear artistic clothes, which are especially appealing to those who wish to express themselves differently.

Instead of sticking to what’s popular, you might find people choosing pieces with unique designs, or art that interests them. Even something as simple as artistic t shirts can allow someone to wear their personality out for the world to see!

Our Jobs Do Not Define Us

Our style used to be what set us apart from our peers. We might define ourselves based on our careers, hobbies, the music we listen to, or the people we surround ourselves with. This doesn’t take away from what we wear, though, as that’s what others see first when looking at us.

It’s not necessary to make a statement with every piece of clothing you wear. To some, style is all about feeling comfortable. To others, clothes might be a chance to try new things, experiment with bold colors and designs, and wear their personality.

It’s fine to fall somewhere in the middle, as well. The most important thing is being able to wear what we like, instead of feeling pressured to follow a trend just because it’s popular at the time.

Following Trends Only Goes So Far

Being trendy can be great, sure, but it’s nice to put our own twist on outfits from time to time.

As everyone else starts to gravitate towards similar items, it can be hard to make our style stand out from the crowd. Art-inspired clothing offers us an outlet for personal expression; just because we pick up on unique, artistic pieces doesn’t mean we have to cover up our style with loud, flashy prints.

A single, unique graphic or design can put the individuality back into a simple outfit.

This is a large reason why people find themselves constantly going back to certain style pieces. You may not have bought the items at a designer boutique, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have class. They reflect your personality in a way that other things simply don’t!

Dressing Up Doesn’t Mean Being Fancy

It’s all well and good to try and reflect our style, but part of the fun in doing so is in being lighthearted about the whole process. You needn’t spend hours upon hours throwing together an outfit; style should be enjoyable, and it’s also a chance to be silly!

You could wear something cute and attention-grabbing, or make a new color combination that’s sure to surprise people. It’s an opportunity to be yourself, even if that means choosing an interesting piece of clothing because you like the way it looks.

You could find that life gets a little easier, as well; you no longer have to endlessly overthink your outfit for the day. You just have to ask yourself a simple question: do I like what I’m planning on wearing?

If you can answer yes to that, then you’re all set!

Putting Together Unique Style

Sticking to what you like doesn’t mean buying an entirely new wardrobe. In fact, it’s helpful to buy things sparingly to assemble the items you feel define your style.

Look at what you have, and try to find recurring themes. You may find that you like art-inspired clothes the most, or that unusual prints and graphics are more your style. You could even see which colors you find yourself reaching for the most if you want to be more colorful in your day-to-day. It’s often the preference for individual pieces that will inform you the most on what you wear.

Now, try to create a wardrobe around your findings. It should be full of interesting twists on classic style pieces, with a look unlike any other.

Style That Says More Than Words

Style is something of a personality test. There will always be people who don’t care for the way you dress, just as there will always be those who find interest in what you’re wearing. Finding personal style is all in the process, though, as it allows us to shape who we are. We spend so much time putting others down for how they carry themselves, but fashion helps us shape our character without putting too much pressure on a situation. We can dress up, be fashionable, and make statements all at once. The clothes we truly enjoy wearing are more than just clothing; they’re the expression of who we are, the way we want to be seen, and how we define ourselves; and that’s the most interesting thing about fashion there is.
