If you feel your home is a bit outdated, sometimes it can be tempting to just put it on the market and move into something new. But you might find that it’s possible to bring new life to your home without spending a fortune. If you’re wanting something more modern, but love your home’s location and all the memories you’ve created there, read on for some ideas for how to modernise your home:

1. Look to the Kitchen
In most homes the kitchen is the heart of the home. If your home is older, then there’s a good chance that your kitchen may a bit out of date. New cupboards and more modern appliances are a great way to bring your home up to speed. You also don’t have to do this all at once, you can slowly upgrade areas of the kitchen as your budget allows. Not only will this make your home more comfortable for you, if you do intend to sell down the line it will do wonders for the value of your home!

2. Consider the Windows

This may be one of the last areas of the home most people think to update, but I personally think it to be really important. If you live somewhere that’s cold in the winter, and you have poorly insulated windows then you’re going to lose a lot of your house’s warmth each day. Upgrading from single pane glass to dual pane windows is a great way to make your home more energy efficient. Between the two layers of glass is a pocket of air that helps regulate the house’s temperature. Upgrading your windows is also a great way to refresh the look of your home from the outside. 3. Fresh Coat of Paint

I find this is the fastest and sometimes most dramatic way to transform your home. As to where to paint – wherever you want! Painting the outside can be great for changing how your home looks when you walk through the door. It’s nice to have a home that looks well taken cared of, and that you feel proud to pull your car up in front of. Painting the inside of your home can make it look more modern, but it can also impact your mood! Think about how colours make you feel and choose a colour that makes you feel relaxed for your living room.

4. Install Smart Lights
We recently installed some smart light switches in our home, mostly for the exterior lights and I love them. I can control them from my phone, which makes it so easy to turn them off without going downstairs. But I’ve also set them up on a timer, so they come on in the evening and switch off around my normal bed time. You can use smart lights and switches throughout your home to make things easier and automated. This is an inexpensive way to make you feel like you’re living in a more modern home!

Updating your home is a wonderful way to ensure that you’ll enjoy it for many years to come. Hopefully these four tips help you modernise your home.
